For parents
Know everyone at home is OK without tracking anyone. A private circle for the family, updates from your child's school trip, and a reason to put the phones down together. Free.
A family circle
Put the family in one private circle. Each of you taps I'm OK now and then, or just opens the app, which counts too. Everyone has a 7-day timer, and if someone goes quiet the others get a nudge to check in. Moods take one tap: "Not great" quietly asks the family to reach out, and "Call me" sends a notification to the people closest to them.
When your child is on a school trip
If the school runs the trip on FiveClose, your child sends you a link to follow them. You see each roll-call answer and every announcement from the teachers ("Arrived at the hotel"). You never see a location or the other children, your child can see who follows them, and following stops when the trip ends.
Phones face-down at home
Start a family focus group for homework time or dinner. Everyone puts their phone face-down for 25 minutes or more, and each of you raises a hen while it stays down. Afterwards you feed the flock together. Group sessions only run between 07:00 and 23:00.
What your teenager gets, and what they don't
- FiveClose is for ages 13 and up. For 13 to 17 year olds, location sharing stays off unless they turn it on, and is then rounded to about 1 km.
- No feed, no followers, no likes, no ads. No chat with strangers: game groups are joined only from a friend's link, and under-18s show as a made-up nickname on the public leaderboard.
- In big groups, a teen's name starts hidden from the other people who joined.
